The Veterinary Residues Committee holds its 5th Open Meeting

The Veterinary Residues Committee (VRC) held its 5th Open Meeting on 12 November at the Beardmore Hotel Glasgow. The committee welcomed the opportunity to explain its work and hear the views of stakeholders. The Committee took the decision to hold its Open Meetings outside of London and in other parts of the United Kingdom. This is because London is not convenient to all and there are particular issues in other parts of the country that are of interest to the committee.

The Committee was able to discuss its normal business and also to hear a presentation on the salmon farming industry from Dr John Webster of the Scottish Salmon Producers’ Organisation. In both the morning and afternoon sessions there were open sessions to allow attendees to express their views and ask questions of the committee.

Some new members will be joining the VRC in January 2009 and the existing members were pleased to welcome some of the new members as guests at the Open Meeting. Biographies of the new members are available on the VRC website: http://www.vet-residues-committee.gov.uk/ as are the minutes of Open Meeting and a copy of Dr Webster’s presentation.

The VRC intends to hold its next Open Meeting in Cardiff in the autumn of 2009. Announcements will be made in MAVIS and on the VRC website in due course. If you would like more information, please contact d.webb@vmd.defra.gsi.gov.uk.
